Phew, what a scorcher
18 July 2013
Go on, admit it. You're missing the Fishy forum, aren't you? What? Sorry? What do you mean social media has replaced the web messageboard format, which looked outdated even before the seven years since the launch of Twitter?
Out of idle curiosity, or just plain idleness, your original/regular Diary has just had a look at the Mariners' superb new official messageboard. In case you haven't been keeping up, or you've got a life or something, this was very coincidentally launched by GTFC approximately eight minutes after the Fishy forum closed because of ongoing legal action.
So, what's the SNOM like, eh? Well, it says at the top "Grimsby Town Fooball [sic] Club". If you're a glass-half-empty kind of person, you might deem this to be some kind of "spelling mistake", or still worse, another woeful dive to the abysmal standards of communication that have embarrassed the club and all associated with it for as long as we all can remember. Me, I like to take the positives, though. They've got 22 out of 23 letters right, so for me that's a good start.
Underneath that it says "The Official Message Board" and there's a picture or something behind the words. You can't really see what it's a picture of but I can definitely make out some bloke's ear. Again, if you're just hell-bent on seeing the negative in everything, you might look at the cursive typeface chosen for this and mutter negatively about that sort of fatally cheesy style having looked outmoded the last time you saw it, on the business card given to you by a wedding DJ with a mullet outside the Dolphin in 1986. But since I like to take the positives, I'm... no, actually, you're right, it looks fucking dreadful in every way imaginable.
The current population of the superb new official messageboard is estimated at around: no bugger. A thread about GTFC trialist "Paul Bigot" has been derailed by some nutcase who reckons Shaun Pearson is crap. God bless the SNOM, and all who sail in her. I'll see you back on Twitter in five minutes.
