Stuck

Stuck in a long, long sentence
Of non-League nonsense.
Of yellow-booted amateurs
Who do the things that matter.

Stuck

We find ourselves lost
We find ourselves alone
Looking for a gunman in the shadows
Pretend we're in it together
Pretend we aren't desperate

We're marred by pride.
We're strangers in a strange land
And we can't cope.
Held by pride impossible to hide
And we can't help but hope.

We could be heroes.
Just for one day.

When?

It was so important.
It was my life.
It was black and white;
It was never grey.
Not even for one day.

When we reached so high,
All those years
We never knew we could fly.
