The Diary

Quiet today, isn't it? (part 27)

8 July 2014

Hello, Middle-Aged Diary here, and have I got news for you?

Um, well, no actually.

Tomorrow, the Mariners play their first pre-season warm-up against Cleethorpes at the Bradley Stadium. Kick-off is at 7, so there is just time to go along, then catch the Argentina v Netherlands World Cup semi-final afterwards. People are making the noises about the first pre-season game they always make.

That leaves the squad numbers. Old Cold War Kremlinologists looking to retrain as Blundell Parkologists may be able to make something out of Lenell John-Lewis wearing number 14 next season while number 9 remains unclaimed. That the number 6 slot is also unfilled weakens my excuse for dusting down the old boating lake joke:

"Come in number 9, we need fresh legs out there!"

"We don't have a number 9!"

"BOO, Challinor, BOOO!"

Luckily, I'm not here all week.
