Your London Diary here picking apart the pieces, conducting a back alley post mortem on what went wrong last night. Very simply, Lincoln scored more goals that Grimsby. That’s football guys. Why did Lincoln score 1 more goal than Grimsby? Well as CA Towers tweeted last night (and augmented by ever increasing irrate/ironic fans, well done all), there could be a number of reasons why we lost. The fact is, we lost. Last night Lincoln City FC beat us and as much as it pains to say it, there’s sod all we can do about it. I could get sucked into the whys and whos but I’m not. I could, but I’m not.
Obviously since the dawn of modern technology we’ve all become professional football managers and now social media enables everyone to have their say in what should be the starting XI. But sadly even though you may have taken Barnsley to the Champions League final in only 4 seasons, there is one manager at the helm at Grimsby Town so let’s just let him do his job, yeah?
People were going absolute bat-shit-crazy when they saw the team sheet last night, ‘DIZ IN 4 MKLOKLIN? WHAT U THINKIN HURSTSTSTS’ (ok, I’m paraphrasing). I’m not defending the manager per se, but if you’re really surprised that the manager has put the club captain in for a local derby which he has played in for 3 years and scores in most of them (3 out of the last 4 and 4 out of 5 if you include last night) and also has 120+ caps to his name for Grimsby, then maybe football’s not for you pal. Try Candy Crush, you’ll be good at that.
Basically, calm the eff down. It’s one game. It was a Tuesday in September. If it was Boxing day and that happened, then yeah, maybe I’d throw my new Binn’s gloves on the floor given to me by my Auntie Irene, but it’s not. And because it’s not, we still win.
