A stranger to the Richter scale
8 June 2015
Miss Guest Diary writes: June is normally the month where I can take a break from being a Town fan. Maybe do a little light gardening and watch the England cricket team find new ways to mess things up while I wait for the fixture list to come out. But not this time.
So far this June, thanks – or maybe curses – to the Mariners Trust and #OperationPromotion, something has been happening every day. Articles in Metro and the Non-League Paper, an appearance on TalkSport by Marc Reed from the trust and constant Twitter updates from our friend over at Too Good to Go Down on the total funds raised. The last time I looked it was well over £40,000, and raised in just seven days. Phenomenal.
Apart from simply wanting to support the club, some of the incentives to donate are very attractive. I am hopeful the signed photo of Wayne's golden goal is already winging its way to me, and two of Shaun Pearson's signed shirts were snapped up in no time yesterday. Now if they offer a signed Carl Magnay shirt… oh no, I forgot: he's dead to me.
Season tickets went on sale at the weekend – have you got yours yet? I usually leave getting mine until much nearer the early bird deadline, but I can feel the pressure building already to be part of the buzz surrounding the club. Expectations at the club are that the uptake will be the highest for many years. I'd just like to issue a note of caution to anyone thinking of getting a seat behind the goal at the back of the Pontoon: the atmosphere there is not always as upbeat as at Wembley. A man sits there who, when asked on Radio Humberside whether his glass was half full or half empty when it came to Town getting promoted, said he saw no glass at all.
What's this? Harry's making a comeback? Apparently there is a bid to have 2,000 new inflatables made so that fans can recreate the famous scene from the Wimbledon game in 1989, but this rests on a local business being found to sponsor the initial production. Now who wouldn't want to be part of that?
In other news… no, there isn't any. I keep seeing online rumours about Omar Bogle joining Town, but I think that's because people just like to say the name. After all, Dayle Southwell's scoring rate in the Conference North is as good as Bogle's and I haven't seen any rumours about him returning to us.
