A weekly letters page? Such luxury. Graham Taylor, youth, and a Blundell Park honeymoon in the spotlight.
Graham Taylor – son of a newspaper man
Like many, I was extremely sad to hear of Graham Taylor’s death.
Those who saw him play, and I don't think this has been mentioned, knew him as a left back who was essentially right footed. He loved the long pass and this was a style he developed as a manager to great effect.
His father, born in Kent, was Sports Editor of the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph. In those days Stuart Barnes, Tom's deputy on the SET, covered all Grimsby away matches anonymously.

Heartfelt
Thanks Barry Whittleton for a warm and heartfelt appreciation of Graham Taylor. As a Watford fan I am grateful that so many around England rose as one to celebrate one of the most innovative English managers of the last 80 years. GT was always very proud of his Mariners career and always held them close to his heart.
Many who love the game were very pleased to see Grimsby back in the League after last season. Good luck the rest of the way with your play-off push in 2017.

Margaret Thatcher – her role in our downfall
So, if lack of milk is to blame [second letter] then how come other teams' yoof are bigger than ours? Huh? Explain that, Mr Butcher.
I'm not sticking up for the evil witch, mind, I'm just intrigued

John Oster
Mr A Butcher lists a load of young players who were cast-offs from other teams, e.g. Croft, Bennett etc...
Which team was John Oster from as I thought Grimsby were his first club?
from Dan Humphrey
Letters Ed responds: According to Mariner Men, John Oster’s first club were Skegness Town juniors. He had a trial at Sheffield United before joining Town.
Pop-up purgatory
Any chance of a public health warning before posting links to the unreadable, yesterday's news today newspaper?

A Yankee in the court of King Marcus
Hi CA team,
Happy New Year! Following my October email Flash Mansaram wrecked my marriage, I'm happy to report all went very well on Boxing day.
Prior to travelling back to the UK, we married on December 5th at City Hall to make it all official (and to hopefully not jinx the game or our future relationship with our Blundell Park visit).
Both my wife and daughter had a great time and enjoyed the hot chocolate and sausage rolls. I must admit though that my daughter Imogene was more focused on playing on my phone for the last 20 minutes as she said she was bored with the game. Elisabeth, on the other hand, found more entertainment from the heckling and comments shouted from a variety of Findus/Youngs/John Smiths stand attendees. She still now sings out in a faux English accent (kind of Gilbert and Sullivan, Victorian English) "you don't know what you're doing".
Despite the dire game, the only two moments of skill and class resulted in two Grimsby goals. Hmmm, another 2-0 win...
UTM!
from Joel Wheatley
Letters Ed responds: Congratulations to you Joel, and to Elisabeth and Imogene for withstanding Blundell Park in December. To hear some pundits talk, that would make them ideal signings for an ambitious second flight team.
