The morning afer the night before

Devon Diary writes: I don't think any of us were expecting that, were we? Those plucky lads up against the big dogs and nobody gave them a chance. Well done Sri Lanka!

Elsewhere, we've had an election. Now, I know some of you believe football and politics don't mix but, (a) you're wrong, and (b) there's nowt happening at Town other than the bombshell that Macca was mates with Diz and Pearson, so what else is there?

Young Harry Clifton got a little stick on that Twitter yesterday for tweeting about Alan Sugar's endorsement of the Sun's embarassingly bad front page attack on Jeremy Corbyn. "Stick to football" some of you suggested, but why? What's wrong with one of our young players having an opinion? It's not as if any of us tweet or post on facebook exclusively about our employment, is it?

Good on you Harry; good on you for seeing through some of the shameful personal attacks and slander which has passed for political debate and comment over the last six weeks.  Good on you for recognising that there's more to life than kicking a ball around.

Yesterday Wicklow Diary did a quick round up of where a few former Town players have ended up but seemed to miss out Ross Hannah, who has returned to Chester. It's one of my niggles about football that when a player leaves, for whatever reason – injury, ambition, age, etc – that we need to slag them off; to suggest they weren't good enough even when we were supporting them week in, week out. I liked Ross and was sad to see him go a couple of summers back so let's wish him all the best for next season.

Nearer home (for me, not you) Torquay are yet to confirm that Josh Gowling is joining them. I hope this move comes off as Gowling and the Gulls would seem like a great match. Despite a lack of investment at Plainmoor, the changes to the play-off places in the conference could see Josh in another promotion push.

It's quiet, innit? There's still nothing from the club, other than telling us the shop will be open tomorrow so I'm going to call it a day. Have a cracking weekend and let's hope Russ has brought us a new Danny Andrew back from his hols.
