Summer is here
7 May 2018
Miss Guest Diary writes: I worked out several weeks ago that the Monday rota would mean I'd be on duty today and was looking forward to giving my view of the ups and downs of this season. But now it's here, I'm not going to.
I could rail at the clueless performances we were forced to endure under Russell Slade before the board saw sense and ended the nightmare.
I could enthuse about the miraculous turnaround of our fortunes under Michael Jolley's leadership, but it's all been said before over the last few weeks in many places.
I could marvel at the improved performances from players many had written off in the dark days of winter. A JJ Hooper hat-trick! I hope someone had a bet on that last Saturday.
I could complain at the cynicism of Forest Green putting the Town fans on the half a dozen steps they laughingly call the west terrace instead of behind the goal so that we were roasted by the sun and too dispersed and too enervated to create a decent atmosphere.
I could waste time thinking of a way to express my frustration at those in our crowd who spent the entire game chanting "Fenty Out" or mocking Gavin Gunning instead of getting behind the players and celebrating our survival in the Football League.
I could make fun of Fenty's latest statement to supporters where he talks about having "wheeled the axe" to rid us of Slade and descends into a convoluted self-pitying ramble about an encounter with fans – no-one loves him and he does care.
But you know what – the season is behind us, it's a beautiful day and all I want to do is lie in the shade sipping a cool drink and waiting for the fixture list to come out on 21 June. Up the Mariners!
