You never know. Except when you know

Basque Diary writes: Ooohhhh, Swindon was fun wasn't it? Another backs-to-the-wall performance where we achieved a good result (and could have nicked a win) against an in-form team. The Town supporters in the corner were in fine form. Indeed, it was one of those games where, once we'd equalised, I thought the crowd were going to get us over the line as much as the players.
It's funny how a goal can raise expectations in an instant. It's also true to say that of a run of wins. The play-offs have been muttered about, both quietly and excitedly in recent weeks among Mariners supporters (me included). If we didn't dream in football, what would be the point?
Having said that, we need to manage our expectations as supporters as we turn into the home straight of the season this Saturday.
During the last five seasons the average points total for the team finishing seventh in the fourth division has been 72.4. Let's be generous and call that 72. We currently sit 25 points off that total with 12 games to play.
From 12 games we would require eight wins and a draw to have an outside chance of making it. I believe in this squad and our manager as much as the next person but I look back at our season so far and see hot and cold streaks.
While eight wins from twelve may not be beyond the realms of possibility for our young team, I fear the social media meltdown after every heavy defeat or winless run. So let's not get downhearted if we don't do it because we've had a good season of consolidation so far. And an FA Cup run to boot.
In parish news, Harry Clifton continues to cement his cult status as he attended a Telegraph Q&A in Cleethorpes last night. He was accompanied by Max Wright who appears to be continuing the good things he did in Scarborough last year at Boston this season.
The DN35 Podcast team are recording again tonight too. They've asked for some more of your questions.
So where was I? Oh yes – eight wins, starting on Saturday. Come on Town!
