Cowards, cowered or incompetent?
13 November 2019
Well, it's four weeks on and nothing has happened.
What's happened in those four weeks to distract our guardians of morals, armed solely with the simple sword of truth and the trusty shield of fair play?
A couple of deeply mundane Town games, the weekly car crash down Brereton Avenue, Toll Bar roundabout's lights being moved ten yards and a general election being called. Within hours of us challenging the Grimsby Telegraph to investigate the tax and business affairs of a top local politician they tweeted that the news team was on it.
On what?
They haven't contacted CA beyond that tweet. Nothing. Either they are intent on burying this in the long grass or are lacking basic competence. Or, following the lead of that top local politician, they will claim "... they cannot recall what the story is, but they know it isn't releasable".
In a slapped-down, run-down town like ours, sometimes it seems seething rage is all we have left. Where that is directed is interesting to observe, for the monopoly local media controls that agenda. What's important is what they say is important. So why are they avoiding exposure of a top local politician having avoided paying over £1m in tax and being chased for even more after liquidating a company? It's not as though they have to do anything difficult, they just have to do a bit of reading.
Scared or stupid?
But at least the crack team of GT journos have found out what some of our old players are currently up to. Now that’s what we call top journalism - breaking the stories you don't need to hear.
Oh, just one more thing: the FA Cup replay at Newport is on Wednesday 20 November 2019.
Like, whatever. Wouldn't it be nice if rich people paid their taxes and our media exposed those who don't?
