Clouds in my coffee

Miss Guest Diary writes: I took my cue from Trentside Diary and decided that I, too, did not want to give any money to the bra gropers on Saturday. Unfortunately, as we live in a democracy, I couldn't prevent my other half from shelling out £10 of our money for the game. I stayed in the same room and distracted myself with a jigsaw and an audio book but couldn't completely avoid the horror show. In recompense, he has offered to remain in the room while I watch the new Hugh Grant drama on Sky.
At least we won't have to shell out any more money for the Barrow game at Blundell Park tomorrow, but I have a feeling I might be sneaking away to watch Bake Off on my tablet during the second half.
Ironically, this is the first time Town have claimed a point from a visit to Stevenage. I understand this is thanks mostly to the efforts of Jamie Mack, who was named man of the match in both the Grimsby Telegraph and here on Cod Almighty. He also features in the EFL League Two team of the week. Well done. Could it be that last week's call by BOTB Diary for him to be sacked has encouraged our keeper to raise his game?
My hopes of Town's season being cancelled were dashed by the Football League statement that "elite sport" will be allowed to continue during the upcoming lockdown. Though whether Town might be infringing the Trade Descriptions Act with that label, I'll leave you to decide. Meanwhile, the FA Cup is looking a whole lot more uncertain. It seems Town wouldn't get an automatic bye if Dagenham & Redbridge are still in coronavirus quarantine next Saturday. As Town have matches every Tuesday in November, I presume the game would have to be played on Saturday 28 November, the day set aside for second round matches. The fates of the nine first round matches involving non-elite teams have yet to be announced by the FA.
Tonight's event at McMenemy’s with Ian Holloway has been cancelled due to North East Lincolnshire entering Tier 2 COVID-19 restrictions. But you can still visit McMenemy's on Tuesday for a meal and to watch the game [This event too has been cancelled since the diary was written - eds]. This leads me to conclude that the original event wouldn't have breached the guidelines laid down for Tier 2, so maybe the cancellation has more to do with a reluctance by the manager to face fans when recent performances have been so lacklustre. Certainly not what he promised before the season started.
Searching for some good news to lighten the mood, I came across an announcement that Anthony Limbrick has left the club. Given that someone becoming unemployed can only be a bad thing, and that Holloway said two months ago that he didn't expect to see Limbrick at the club again, this is neither good nor news. So I'm going to stop now and see if I can raise my mood with some frivolous shopping before we're all back under lockdown. UTM
