Postbag: Tired all the time

24 August 2006

Morning. Anyone else as tired as me? Nope, thought not. It doesn't help you know. Your team playing cak that is. Especially when you're tired. It's really hard to stay awake. Really, really hard.Yawn. Anyway, people either seem too depressed to email about the current state of the team, or are past caring. If there's something else you'd rather tell the word, do it here: postbag@codalmighty.com

Grimsby all over the world

Welcome back Mr postbag, Sir.

Never mind the Grimsby in Norway, impressive though it is. Never even mind Grimsby, Ontario, where I spent a mercifully brief part of my 23rd birthday. Because... there's only a blooming Humberstone in Chile!

There's also a People's Park in Grimsby, besides the Cleethorpes one mentioned by your correspondent (where's that one anyway?). Also, good haddock in London can be found at Seafresh in Wilton Road - round the back of Victoria station. And Geales in Notting Hill. And... nowhere else in London. At all.

Don't like Town's baseball player-esque white and black Nike socks. Come on you Grimsby redsox dudes.

from Nick Meaney

Letters Ed responds: It looks almost as nice as the UK Humberstone too...

Hark the Herald

Sadly the players are not being sent back to RAF Honington for failing to convince anyone during the first three games of the season.

As you were so kind after my last clipping from the Bury Free Press, my father-in-law (who works at the base) has sent me a clipping from the Honington Herald magazine. A full page featuring our favourite bunch of rogues (and the Town players) sitting in front of a Buccaneer, I think.

It's all a bit old now, but with the lack of actual new signing etc - but you may find some use for it. And there's probably some comedy value in the pictures.

from Nigel Hardy

Letters Ed responds: Cheers Nige. There's ALWAYS comedy value in pictures like this, I can assure you. Even if it just makes me laugh.

Radio unfree Grimsby

Pathetic. Fenty's lost the plot. Town away and its a dreary saturday afternoon - so you go shopping in Hull or Scunny for a change. But you want the Town commentry to listen to in the car - you don't take your bloody laptop with you. I've listened to Humberside's commentaries for about 25 years and it's all part of supporting the Mariners, even if your not at the match. If John Tondeur's there you know you'll get a Town fan's perspective. Sort it Fenty!

Codalmighty - bringing families together

I just found your site while searching for information about Vanse and Farsund, Norway. Near the bottom of the page was a message from a Norman Grimsby asking for help.

My maiden name is Grimsby, my great-grandfather, Conrad Grimsby, was born in Farsund, Norway in 1843 and was brought to the United States shortly after birth. My father received an inheritance that was derived from the sale of the Grimsby Farm there in Norway. I feel certain that Norman is closely related to me and my brother, who also lives in southern California. I would very much like to get in touch with him and share info on the family, including info about the shipping that the Grimsby's did as well as their connection to Grimsby, England. I noted that Norman did have an e-mail address but it was omitted in the message, which I assume was done to protect his privacy. But I thought if you could relay my message to him with my e-mail address, maybe he would get in touch with me.

Please let me know if this is possible. I am assembling the information about our family for an album and am about ready to start writing the history. I feel certain that we could be of great assistance to each other. Thank you very much.

from Agatha Grimsby Mortenson

Letters Ed responds: Glad to be of service Agatha. I'm sure our readers will be pleased to hear that Agatha and Norman have been in touch, and they're second or third cousins. I've never really understood that second cousin thing - is it your cousin's cousin or something?

A letter about bikes and mattresses

Just what sort of people do you have contributing letters to this postbag. Your STAR LETTER in last weeks postbag was from somebody who thought that Peoples Park was in Meggies and was built on a pile of aborted foetuses, or is it foeti. It's just sick.

Everyone knows that Peoples Park is in Grimsby and is actually built on a small feather mattress named Lionel and an old bicycle from Cooks. The ghost of the bicycle can sometimes be seen in the pond.

A few more articles on Grimsby and Cleethorpes history wouldn't go amiss.

from BlackandWhiteBarmy

Letters Ed responds: Ok. Who wants to write a few more articles on Grimsby and Cleethorpes? Come on... there must be someone with nothing better to do...
