An older fan and an Imp see hope in the end of Fenty
26 May 2021
The Fenty Years have pulled at most of our heartstrings and even struck a chord with a fellow football supporter at the other end of the A46.
Commiserations from a Lincoln supporter
Just to say that I thought the The Fenty Years articles are comedy gold, brilliant. Whilst I'm sure there was always meant to be an element of humour, I'm sure much of it is bitter sweet for you Mariners.
Hand's up - I'm an Imp, but having business interests in Grimsby, and working there for most of the last 20 years, I always take an interest.
Best of luck with your speedy return to the Football League. I'm sure it is a new dawn.

The Fenty Years sparks a reflective mood
In the words of the Immortal Terry Pratchett "we've all passed a lot of water" since I last put fingers to keyboard. However after reading the excellent Fenty Years Part 1, I'm wondering what motivated a small time entreponeur like Mr. Fenty to think that he had the qualifications to run a professional football club?
It couldn't be a deep understanding of the game, nor the desire to connect with the fans and the community at large considering the dire standard of communication at the both club level and the wider plaform of broadcast media.
When it comes to the actual management of the club on the pitch Mr. Fenty's choice was bizarre to say the least. We have never seen a stranger collection of hasbeens, neverwillbes and neverwozzers ever to grace sacred turf of Blundell Park. Oblige me by thinking for minute, of one two of these luminaries. Ladies, gentlemen, long suffering fans, I give you, Mr Mike Newell, that weird yoyo from Solihull Moors whose name I cannot remember for the life of me and the charismatic, guru and man about football Mr. Russell Slade twice.
As for the much vaunted new stadium we are no nearer than we where when Mr. Fenty took charge. We've been Willowed, Peakes Parkwayed etc. until I've almost lost the will to live.
I look to The Fenty Years part 2 to shed more light on the saga of the rise and fall of our own, our very own, unwanted, unloved, and definitely unmissed previous owner.
Having been a Mariner's fan for more years than I care to mention, I am in my 81st year, and for the first time for ages I can honestly say that I am looking forward to and hopeful for better times for the fans and club.
