The stars, your mum and our very own Shorty

Trentside Diary writes: Daubney Diary is suffering from signing fatigue? For me, that only happened last season and I'm not for a minute suggesting I am the Russell Grant of Cod Almighty Towers but we all know how that turned out.
My solution to New Signing Fatigue? Don't listen to the interviews. Is that a dereliction of my duty as a diarist? Almost certainly but you can court-martial me later. I don't listen because I feel a bit sorry for players doing the interview. Unless your mum, your nan or your cousin's wife came from the Grimsby area, in its widest definition, what can you say that's different? You're out of contract with Lollygagger United and you're relieved the team you have always wanted to play for has offered you a contract. What's not to be happy about.
I do a quick online search to find out a bit about the player's history and sometimes a look at what the previous set of fans are saying about him. Not for a minute am I suggesting that its foolproof. Just look at the players who have moved on from Town and really weren't rated here but have gone on to do a decent job for someone else. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it doesn't.
What I do take from the signings so far is Hurst has credibility. Add that to him being able to champion a change of culture and it's ticking along nicely. Somehow I don't think there will be tales of players missed out on as there was last year.
On Monday I did something that until last month I didn't think I would do again: I renewed my season ticket. It is over a year since I last set foot anywhere near Blundell Park and I was so excited. There was a real buzz in the ticket office. I know it was my imagination but the staff in there seemed lighter and brighter. They made jolly apologies for taking longer as they would like more details for the new system but actually, it still wasn’t as long as it used to take. It felt good to be renewing. I would have felt bad to have broken the family tradition spanning decades not to renew but I would have stuck to "not a penny more".
I promise I will stop mentioning the change of ownership so often when the new season is underway but in the meantime: bloody hell, we have new owners. In a world where there is so much wrong, a little corner is heading firmly in the right direction. Love it! If you want to hear more from the new owners, you could get involved with their Q and A sessions organised by the Mariners Trust.
Excuse me while I go and polish my crystal ball.
