Old year, new letters

29 December 2012

As all the mainstream media are doing it, here's an end of year round up of letters. All new content, honest.

To get the 2013 postbag off to a stirring start, write to us at postbag@codalmighty.com.

Another victim of the Grimsby reaper

"Conference side Gateshead confirmed on Tuesday that they had parted company with their manager Ian Bogie following a poor run of results that left his side out of the race for promotion to the Football League."

Does this add to the list of managers sacked following a game where they failed to beat us? If so, a bit harsh seeing as the game last Tuesday was postponed due to a frozen pitch!

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

from David Robertson

Letters Ed responds: No worse than Trevor Francis being sacked after his Palace side only beat us by three goals. We'll claim it.

Half term report wanted

23 games played. Halfway through the season. I would welcome statistics and comment on where we were last season, or where Fleetwood, Crawley, Stevenage were at the same stage, and where they are now.

Merry Yule.

from Antony Chapman

Letters Ed responds: We'll leave this one hanging there for anyone who fancies picking up the challenge and running with it. If anyone has a mind to carry out the research and write up the results, we'll be glad to publish it.

Willy's

I read the Wrexham preview and saw that you're looking for suggestions for somewhere to head for a pint before the match.

Based on my experience last week (FA Trophy vs. Havant & Waterlooville) I'd suggest Willy's on the seafront, near the lifeboat station. This was my first home match since we dropped out of the league (although I do see them away - distance and apathy the main reasons for my absence) so I headed to one of my old favourites from the late 1990s. Definitely not disappointed - cracking pint of Old Groyne and the chilli and chips took me right back. No brainer for me when I'm up next - even great views across the Estuary!

UTM

from Alan Richardson

Letters Ed responds: Thanks Alan. I suspect that might be a bit far from Blundell Park for the convenience of the CA team, but the suggestion is noted.

Things you only know if you are from Grimsby

The biggest ever attendance at Old Trafford football ground was 76,962 when Grimsby Town played there in the 1939 FA Cup Semi-Finals.

I lived away from Grimsby most of my adult life and absolutely no one ever believes me when I tell them.

from Andrew Hill

Letters Ed responds: One of the CA team has been working on an article which draws on this fact for an embarrassingly long time. Look out for it in the new year (but not sure which new year it will be)

Season's greetings

Happy Christmas to all at CA. Thanks for all you`re hard work in keeping the best footie website going. Best of luck to you and to Town for 2013.

from Sibbo

Thanks Sibbo, and thanks also to Richard Satterley (the man of faith) who sent us an e-Christmas card thanking us for a year of amusing reading.

Thanks to everyone who has written in in 2012. It is always a pleasure to get your feedback and thoughts.
