I’m a pragmatic observer, don't you know!
26 September 2023
What do you write about when we've just lost in the most error-ridden game I've probably ever seen and there's not a lot of news coming out of the club? Of course we knew Orsi would score. Many town fans rated him and were disappointed when he left, me included. I've heard rumours as to why he left but I've no idea if they are true. It's always disappointing to see a player you like leave the club but we're not going to hang on to everyone, or get every signing we want. Every transfer window is a bit of a feeding frenzy, up against some big clubs for that reasonably prolific striker. Some years it comes off, think Bogle, Amond and McAtee in the last ten years. Some it really doesn.t. Hopefully it will be our time soon.
I didn't manage to get a programme on Saturday which was disappointing. I don't get one every week but would have liked to see the coverage of the anniversary. It was therefore good to read Jason's notes online. The pride in our club is clear. I might well be described as a happy clapper but I don't subscribe to that description, particularly as it is used mainly as an insult. I will say that Grimsby Town is my religion and Blundell Park my place of worship but that's as far as it goes. I have to smile at those who instantly jump to "you're not allowed to criticise Hurst or the club" as their response when someone disagrees with them. Of course you can, but don't expect a free pass if you have a go. I can't imagine anyone left the ground happy on Saturday, I just don't feel the need to criticise on social media. When all is said and done we could easily have been in the position of our nearest neighbours with Blundell Park suggested as a speculative construction opportunity and no clear future for the club. You have to wonder where it will end. Rivalry has been set aside for the time being, showing the best side of football fans.
Unlike Miss Guest diary I have never owned a Town shirt, although I've bought many for others. In hindsight I should have worn my Justin Whittle tee-shirt on Saturday so I've dug it out to write my diary instead. Maybe I'll remember it for 150 years or even have a shirt by then, you never know! In the meantime I might just treat myself to a calendar for next year. If you're around and have time, why not pop into the club shop on Thursday to get one and have it signed by the players? UTM!
