We’re the pride of Humberside!

10 October 2023

I'm writing from Cleethorpes this morning. A treat and I should probably be your Humberside rather than Trentside diary. Unfortunately that would trigger those frothing locals who think Lincolnshire is posh and we're more closely connected to farming than the fisher folk. Ah well, Trentside it is.

Being so close I could have considered a trip to the home of football this evening and if it wasn't for those pesky kids from Posh Street Club I probably would have gone. Until the format changes it's still a boycott for me and I'll be saving myself for the delights of Accrington Stanley at the weekend. As always if you are watching Town, enjoy the game. I wouldn't be so petty as to wish it otherwise.

There may be a reader out there who can help. After listening to this View from the Findus podcast, one of the team had not heard the famous Slade "Frenchman" clip. I'm sure it was the same one that had the classic "I could get any woman off the street" or words to that effect comment. It used to be online somewhere but maybe Slade has paid one of those companies that bombard the internet with good news stories to drown out any negatives and get things taken down where they can. Maybe one of you knows where it is still to be found.

I was thinking about the “Save the Dates” message Town put out a few days ago. The fans forum on 24th November and Player of the Year Awards on 20th April next year. I've never been to either but usually watch the forum online. I now watch safe in the knowledge that never again will there be the horror of the Tan Turtleneck and Suspicious Sontaron attacking someone who was actually there helping the club out. I clearly remember sitting in my kitchen and not quite believing what I was watching. Matt Dean mentioned it during his commentary on Saturday with a chuckle nowadays. It certainly wasn't fun at the time. Just another example of how much better things are now.

In a link that could grace Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs, that brings me neatly on to it being World Mental Health Day today. I'm not one for 'days' unless it's International Wine Day or Eat-as-much-cake-as-you-can Day, but this one is different. If you need to reach out then please take that step. Phone numbers attached.
