I resolve to walk the legs off my dogs for the foreseeable future

7 November 2023

Unlike Miss Guest diary yesterday I did listen to a fair chunk of the game on Saturday. I'm still frustrated at the whole 90 minutes but I will take some credit for our goal as I gave in to a pestering dog and took him for a walk during the second half. Town invariably score when I do that. It reminded me very much of Coalville away in the FA Trophy in 2013 when we struggled to beat them. At least we scored first on that day.

Irrespective of where you were on the Hurst In/Hurst Out debate, he rose above the vitriol that has been directed at him and made a statement that just oozed class. His disappointment at not being able to turn this season around and to be leaving on a low was self-evident. Some supporters of the club have always seemed to hate him but I'm sure they celebrated our big moments over the last couple of seasons. He's given us memories for a lifetime. I may not have always agreed with his choices but then I could say that about any of our managers at some point or another. Hopefully we'll get an appointment soon and can start "moving forward" as they say.

I am worried about our squad though. I sincerely believe that we have a decent group of players but once the confidence slipped it all started going downhill. Confidence in a sporting context can be a fragile thing. A bird that's either soaring or crashing to the ground. We've shot the manager and now the interim management team are carrying his misfortune around their necks. It's a tough ask for them and the players as we definitely need a shot in the arm to change the mood.

I hope they can do it but maybe the fans could help too? I've seen some start to slag off players on social media. Talk about kick a man when he's down. Maybe let's see what someone else can do to improve the mood before we go nuclear? Like it or not these players are our team for the next couple of months and will certainly be the core of our squad for the rest of this season. We need a leader of the do-or-die calibre of Disley to step up. Let's do our bit and get behind them.

UTM!
