Straight after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Port Vale (the report for which will appear later today) Mike Newell stated he was going to enter the loan market. And while specifying a forward as his pressing need to Radio Humberside, the Grimmo Telegraph quotes him saying: "We'll have to look at all areas, to be quite honest." Which makes your Idle Diarist half-sigh with the hope that Newell has recognised the midfield's inability to contribute meaningfully so far this season. If he doesn't, however, then the comparison with the ill-fated Groves season - as noted by Guest Diary on Friday - will seem even closer and scarier. Still, at least we haven't got a trip to Hartlepool to fear...
