The Diary

Do you hear weeping?

13 May 2014

Alex Rodman has declined to trigger the clause that would allow him to stay at Grimsby next season. Expect more on that tomorrow.

It is the season for speculation... Let your Middle-Aged Diary rephrase that: it is the season for speculation untempered by the smallest modicum of hard news. In brief, Craig Disley expects to stay, Bradley Wood would like to come back and Alan Connell is a free agent.

I'll hand the rest of this diary over to you.

Charles Lumley writes: "I really enjoyed The Making of Pass and Move: part 1. It was a fascinating insight into our former glorious leader and the work that went in to documenting his many achievements. Can you give me a rough indication of when part 2 will be published, if indeed ever? I have been staring at my screen and clicking F5 since 3 February 2014 and I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out."

Just press F5 a few more times, Charles – we hope to have part 2 out later this week. We have a couple more features lining up as well, so if you can stay with us during the close season, we hope you will be rewarded.

David Elvidge greets us from north Norfolk: "With another season over I would like to thank everyone at Cod Almighty for the consistently high standard of news and views on our beloved Mariners. It's difficult for me to get to many games, so the service you provide makes me feel 'included'." Nice of you to say so.

David then echoes the views of most of last week's diaries: "I'm pleased the board have made this quick declaration that Paul Hurst will continue as manager. That means he can decide now who stays and the players he would like to bring to the club. From interviews I have heard and read he comes across as 'Town through and through'."

Finally, last week I invited you to name a team made up of players with a substantial number of Town appearances since our defeat in the Football League Trophy final in 2008. Iain Biglin has corrected me on Twitter for suggesting Justin Whittle, who left Blundell Park in May 2008. Tom Dale suggested a full XI: McKeown; Bore, Pearson, Bennett, Thomas; Coulson, Disley, Kerr, Neilson; Connell, Hearn. We are still open to suggestions, and indeed any other feedback or opinions you care to offer.

Cheers.
