Stuff yer League 3
30 May 2014
Mardy Diary writes: I commented last week on how pleased I was that Town had announced their pre-season fixture list so early and pondered whether this would mean that they'd be releasing season ticket prices early for once. Amazingly, today they have released season tickets early and held prices at the same level as last season.
Along with Hurst sorting out existing player contracts, this getting stuff done early on is a bright step forward for the club and one that I applaud. It feels like the club wants to get its business done early and get on with things for once. Of course, the signings will take longer, as they are not as straightforward, but we should expect that.
The club has also taken the generous step of offering a discount to those over 75. I don't know how many fans we have over that age, but I'm sure the club has the figures. It would be nice to extend it to all fans of pensionable age, but I'm sure the seemingly arbitrary figure of 75 is based on affordability for the club. Still, it's not to be knocked and is a decent gesture, along with keeping prices for kids low.
My only gripe would be the continuation of a higher price for those in the 15 to 18 age group compared to those younger. You could argue that, in Grimsby at least, a fair number of those 16 and over may already be earning a bit of cash. However, I've never understood why 15-year-olds get lumped into that group. It's an old bus company trick which seems to be based on physical size rather than earning potential.
I'm not going to gripe over a minor issue though, because I'm just glad the club has for once released season tickets early. It makes me feel slightly confident that we're moving in the right direction. I also wonder if we're starting to see some supporters' trust influence here (not wishing to take anything away from the club)?
Anyway, here's looking forward to a few exciting signings in the coming month. Remember: be patient. Have a good weekend.
