Here comes the summer

13 July 2022

Briefly yesterday, Grimsby Town were advertising for someone to work in the club shop who had "wiliness to learn". Fortunately the typo was corrected before they were inundated with applications from coyotes. Cod Almighty didn't even have time to put out a sarcastic tweet about it. Domestic Diary knows that minor mistakes were often corrected even under John Fenty, but let's chalk it up under "how far we have come" anyway.

So too our 6-1 victory over a Hull City under-23 team yesterday. In Cod Almighty Towers we've been debating whether a behind closed doors friendly warrants an entry in our results database, and neither the official site or the Grimsby Telegraph have yet covered it, but there is a report on the Hull City site. The substitution of Niall Maher after six minutes was probably not planned, but it may have been a precautionary measure for a minor knock, so let's not get too aerated about it unless we learn otherwise.

All that remains is to point you towards the women's Euro Championships. I've watched three games on telly and while England's nervy win over Austria was a fairly typical tournament opener, the other two were fantastic. There is a bit of a story to be told, one day, about Grimsby's involvement in the history of women's football but in the meantime if anyone is letting prejudice stop them watching some high-class international sport they are hurting only themselves.

See you.
